Frequently Asked Questions
My child is having problems at school and I don’t know what to do, or where to go next. How can 5energies© help my child?
In an initial consultation with parents, the 5energies© learning consultant will appreciate it if you bring school reports, samples of your child’s work, or previous assessments by health professionals such as a doctor, speech pathologist or occupational therapist. An integrated screening, developed in collaboration by a speech pathologist, occupational therapist and teachers, can give further information about your child’s learning challenges. In consultation with parents, learning sessions can be organised, and home programs implemented. Contact the 5energies© office for more information about the availability of such sessions for your child.
I have a two year old who is having difficulties speaking properly. Is my child too young to be screened?
Parents are the best sources of information about their own children. If you, as a parent, think your child is having difficulties with communication, it is probable that they are. You need the assistance of a suitably qualified speech pathologist, or organise an integrated screening with a trained and qualified 5energies© learning consultant, who will then advise you of a suitable course of action.
My high school aged child has been experiencing difficulties for years, and nothing seems to work. What can I do now?
If your child has been receiving intensive assistance from education and health professionals, now is not the time to stop that. If your child is seeing a trained and qualified specialist on a regular basis, that professional should continue working with your child. However, 5energies© is about new beginnings for your high school child, and new partnerships with you, as his or her concerned parent. The 5energies© approach is to optimise learning for children. A fresh eye, or a complementary approach may be needed, and you can ring the 5energies© office to discuss a ‘no obligation’ screening and advice on possible future directions.
My child does not seem to know how to behave around other children. The teacher at school says that my child has interaction difficulties, and I have spoken to my child about this, but nothing seems to change. How can 5energies© help my child?
As well as addressing specific learning difficulties (which are often hidden beneath a veil of interesting behaviours), 5energies© offers a selection of small groups specifically aimed at fostering appropriate social interactions. With the direction of a trained and qualified 5energies© learning consultant and assistant, a small group of similarly aged children sing, dance, practise specific literacy and numeracy skills and problem solve their way to success. A parent attends each session, so is fully familiar with the focus of each session, and can practice at home, reinforcing interaction skills learned in each session.
I am a working parent and understand that a parent must be present during each child’s learning sessions. I cannot take time off work. What can I do?
While it is preferable that a parent be present during each child’s learning session, a close relative or friend is also able to attend. Someone who is integrally involved in the child’s life can attend in your place at the learning sessions, but the initial consultation, and ongoing progress reports need to be coordinated with your busy schedule. Contact the 5energies© office for further options for you and your child.
I am a teacher with several children who require individual programs to cater for behaviour and learning challenges. How can 5energies© help me?
5energies© offers training to teachers and schools in the 5energies© approach to assessment, integrated programs linked to education requirements. The specific teacher training explores situations unique to classrooms and schools and provides resources developed specifically for the busy teacher. As well as offering learning sessions at the Consultancy in Burpengary (Brisbane), teacher training can be negotiated for your school, wherevery you might be, ie we will travel!!! Contact the 5energies© office for further information.
My four year old child is clumsy, does not draw, and tends to knock over his drink frequently. Does this need further investigation?
Your child may need to be evaluated by a physiotherapist, occupational therapist and optometrist and/or you and your child can attend an integrated 5energies© screening. An integrated screening advises you of an appropriate course of action.
My child is now in grade four and is still reversing letters, not putting spaces between words and has very messy handwriting. She holds the pencil with all her fingers wrapped around the pencil. What should I do?
Your child may need an evaluation by an occupational therapist, and an optometrist. 5energies© screening can offer you an integrated screening and advise you of an appropriate course of action.
