Helping Children with Autism Package

5energies is now a registered Panel / service provider with the Helping Children with Autism package, in a collaboration with Autism Australia and the Australian Government Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs!  Servicing all areas of North Brisbane, we are proud to be associated with this package of assistance for children with autism, and will be continuing our quality services for children with learning delays and developmental challenges. The role of the teacher is a unique one.

As classrooms become increasingly diverse, catering for the needs of individual children becomes increasingly difficult.

Research suggests that 15 – 65% of students in most schools are of normal cognitive function, but are failing to acquire functional literacy and numeracy, despite the best practice, hard work and determination of teachers and schools. Translated, 15% minimum equates to approximately 71000 students, including 5400 Prep students in Queensland who are struggling to achieve basic literacy and numeracy skills.

5energies© Learning Consultants are trained, qualified and registered educators and professionals on a mission to improve and optimise learning for children.

Developed in collaboration with speech pathologists and occupational therapists, this program is an integrated one aimed at optimizing learning for children. 5energies© understands the needs of teachers as well as learners in the classroom. 5energies© is about further empowering teachers to make educationally sound and valid decisions and to back those decisions with creative, interesting and meaningful strategies that optimise learning and promote effective partnerships.

The 5energies© approach in schools

5energies© can offer teachers and schools a range of professional learning options, ranging from information sessions to three-day professional development in the core skills underpinning learning.

  • A ‘Taste’ of 5energies© (2 hours): core skills and overview;
  • 3-day comprehensive training in ten core modules, with a variety of professional learning packages available. These include training as a 5energies© trainer at the end of two years of implementation (prices and options available by contacting the Learning Consultancy office on 07 3888 6069 or through the website portal in the right hand sidebar);
  • After training, use of the comprehensive FILTA© (5energies Integrated Screening Tool of Australia) in classrooms and schools for one year (licensing fees apply);
  • Ongoing professional learning and support with a focus on practical, realistic and meaningful implementation strategies;
  • Support and assistance with the development of effective parent programs;
  • Resources to assist teaching and learning programs within classrooms and schools;
  • Access to 5energies© speech pathologist, occupational therapist and senior educators resident in the school for one term of intensive work (option in full Community of Best Practice professional learning package, available upon request);
  • Use of fully equipped conference room, break-out rooms and facilities at the 5energies© Learning Consultancy in Burpengary, Queensland (room hire rates available upon request); an
  • Helpful hints, updates, teacher-specific resources and training schedules in the ‘Teacher only’ section of the website.

Professional Development and Learning

Facilitation of a range of professional learning in negotiation with school leaders such as:

  • Untangling the Learning Pathways: Integrated Sensory Motor Skill Development
  • Collaborative Teaching and Learning
  • The Survival Kit of Spelling Strategies: includes a copy of the 5energies© Switching on with Sounds and Spelling Booklet
  • 5energies© Story Energy: Spike and Joey travel back in Time: using and integrating multimedia to reinforce literacy understandings
  • Working effectively with Multi-age Classes: From theory to practical reality (1 – 2 modules, individual or small group sessions)
  • BEHAVE©: a series of learning sessions exploring the range of behaviour management strategies (Primary only)
  • TALK and the world talks with you: an intensive look at receptive and expressive language, and phonological awareness in the classroom (1 – 2 modules)
  • Working with Health Professionals: an intensive 2 hour module that explores the relationships with other health professionals such as the Speech Pathologist and Occupational Therapist. What are their indicators of literacy success?
  • Managing Change: theory and practical strategies (senior leadership, teams of teachers, whole schools with content negotiated within the school
  • Planning for the Future: a facilitated session to develop collaborative decision making and problem solving

Mentoring and Support Packages

Mentoring packages of ongoing support are available, particularly where independent, experienced and professional facilitation is required. A range of options are available and can be negotiated.

Examples include combinations of:

  • Targeted or focus professional learning workshops or sessions: individuals or small group
  • One on one discussion and development of strategies
  • Collaborative programming and planning
  • Modelling of effective strategies and activities in the classroom, particularly in the 5energies© approach
  • Change Management / Planning for the future: facilitation of small groups or whole school
